During the summer of 1974, while I was stationed at Korat Air Base, Paiboon and I took a vacation and went to Chiang Mai Province in the far north western part of the country. The city of Chiang Mai is one of the oldest in Thailand. It is approximately 600 kilometers from Bangkok and only 100 kilometers from the border with Burma, which is known today as Myanmar.
